IN PRE-PRODUCTION: Fallen In The Well

Currently in pre-production, a feature length documentary exploring the lives of 5 children ages 3‐14 on a journey through a world where mind and body disconnect. Where reality and perception take hallucinogenic forms. Theirs is a world where the simple touch of another person can send tidal waves of sensory stimulation that cause them to shut off one or more senses in a desperate attempt to find relief.

These are the children of Autism, and the story of how the varying stages and severity of this disorder can be calmed – enabling these children to connect to the world around them through the eyes, scent and touch of a dog.  And not just any dog – their dog, trained just for them. An animal that enters into an environment of dysfunction, fear and despair and transforms the world surrounding both the child and the family, providing precious moments of peace in a sea of turbulence.

We follow these families before, during and after the introduction of highly trained service dogs in what will become, through film, a visual and auditory exploration into the day to day coping required when a member of the family is struggling with Autism – and how the patient and gentle affection of a dog can soothe.
This film not only observes the trauma caused by Autism, but also offers a practical, even simple approach to helping these children live life with a sense of safety, love and fulfillment that is often robbed from them by their disorder.

Observational filmmaking, animation, optical stimulation and audio manipulation are mixed to seamlessly intertwine our perception with the Autistic child’s reality. No formal interviews. The film’s goal will be to represent the subject in a manner that is as free form and visually wild as the minds of the children who are being observed.

Production begins summer 2012. Open to all investment ideas. I am eager to hear from people who are ready to make this film a reality for the 1.5 million Americans currently afflicted by Autism.
